Co-ordinator for International Relations (CIR)　国際交流員

Like Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), Co-ordinators for Interantional Relations (CIRs) are civil servants of foreign nationality whose employment is facilitated by the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. JET is administered by three Japanese government ministries (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR). Each year there are approximately 4,500 participants on the JET programme.

CIRs are required to have Japanese ability equivalent to level 2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. The work of a CIR includes organizing and participating in international exchange events and activities, visiting local kindergartens and pre-schools, conducting translation and interpretation to help local foreign residents, and encouraging international understanding.

Kyotanabe City employed its first CIR, Alison Evans, on the 27th July 2009.

外国語指導助手（ALT）と、国際交流員　(CIR) は外国青年招致事業（JETプログラム）を介し、公務員として勤務する外国人です。JET プログラムは外務省、総務省、文部科学省の三省庁と一般財団法人自治体国際化協会（CLAIR）の下で行っています。毎年、約4,500人が参加しています。

CIRは日本語能力試験2級以上相当の能力を要し、国際交流イベント等を実施し、在留外国人のために翻訳と通訳のサポート等、国際感覚を高めることを目的としています。

2009年7月27日に初代国際交流員、アリソン・エヴァンズが京田辺市で勤務しました。

Hello! My name is Leah Chaves and I am Kyotanabe City’s Coordinator for International Relations. I am here to help the city forge international relations, assist foreign residents, and educate citizens on overseas cultures. My hometown is Indianapolis, Indiana in the United States, which is not too far away from Chicago. I graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelors of Science in International Studies and minors in Political Science and Chinese.

This is my fourth time in Japan and third time living in Japan as I have studied abroad here twice. The first time was as a high school student for a year in Aichi Prefecture while the second time was for a semester in college at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto city. In between those two times, I came to Japan to sightsee for a few weeks. I have been around Kyoto many times and am rather familiar with the area! I love trying Japanese food and visiting temples, shrines, and castles. I am looking forward to living in Kyotanabe and getting to know the citizens!

初めまして！2021年10月に京田辺市の新しいCIR（国際交流員）に着任しましたシャベズ莉愛（りあ）と申します。京田辺市で国際交流や外国人住民のサポート、また市民へ異文化発信を行うために参りました。出身地はアメリカのインディアナ州インディアナポリス市でシカゴの近くにあります。インディアナ大学で国際関係を専攻し、政治学と中国語を副専攻しました。

これまで日本には交換留学で2回、観光で1回訪れたことがあるので、今回日本で生活をするのは4回目です。高校生の期間に愛知県に一年間交換留学しました。また、大学生の時に京都市の立命館大学に1学期間（5ヶ月）留学しました。その時に私は京都を何度も巡りましたので、この地域をよく知っています。日本食を食べたり、神社やお寺、お城に行ったりすることも大好きです。京田辺市で生活し、市民の皆さんとふれあうことを楽しみにしています！！
