Reality is stranger than fiction」(現実は小説より面白い)

　とても寂しいことですが、これが最後のコラムとなりました。私は間もなく、京田辺でのたくさんの楽しい思い出と共に、ロンドンの近くのホームタウンに帰ります。

　8月には、私の代わりに新しいCIRが来ます。1年前に、私が着任したときと同じように温かく迎えてあげてください。

　実家に帰ることも楽しみですが、京田辺ではたくさんの素晴らしい思い出ができました。茶祭り・竹送りなどのイベントに参加したり、玉露を初めて飲んだり、多くの人々と出会ったりしました。これらの日本での最高の思い出を私は懐かしむと思います。

　CIRの仕事で1番良かったことは、私の企画したイベントで多くの市民のみなさんに出会えたことです。また、私のコラムを読んでいただいたことに、お礼を申し上げます。みなさんも私と同じように楽しんでくれていたと思います。

　最後に、この1年間本当にお世話になりました。ありがとうございます。これは、もう会えないお別れではなく、ちょっとだけのお別れです。またいつかお会いしましょう。

              I’m sad to say, but this column is my last. I’ll soon be returning to my hometown near London in the UK with many happy memories of Kyotanabe.

              There will be a new CIR coming here this August, and I hope you will give them just as warm a welcome as I received when I arrived last year.

              Although I’m looking forward to returning home, I’ve made a lot of good memories during my time here. I’ve attended several local events, including the tea festival and the Takeokuri, drank gyokuro for the first time and met lots of different people. These will always be my best memories of Japan, and I will miss them all.

              One of the best things about my job as a CIR has been meeting all the people who came to my events, and the people who have read my column throughout the year. I’d like to thank all of you. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!

              Finally, I’d like to thank everyone in Kyotanabe for their support and friendship over the past year. This is goodbye, but not farewell. Let’s meet again some day!
