　こんにちは、みなさん！

　バレンタイン・デーは、いかがお過ごしでしたか。

　2月にあるイベントといえば、バレンタイン・デーがとても有名ですが、パンケーキ・デーはご存じですか。

　パンケーキ・デーとは、お祭りに向けてぜいたくな食事などを自粛する期間があり、その前日に、バター・卵などのぜいたくな食材を使い切るため、パンケーキがよく作られたことに由来している日で、今年は2月21日です。

　現在では、パンケーキを食べたいから、パンケーキ・デーをお祝いする人も多くなっています。パンケーキは、レモンを絞ったり、砂糖をかけたりして、よく朝食として食べられます。

　また、イギリス各地ではパンケーキ・レースが行われます。基本的には、女性が参加するレースで、フライパンでパンケーキをひっくり返しながら落とさずに走り、一番速くゴールまで走った人が勝つというのが、よくあるルールです。男性が参加する場合は、エプロンを着けるなど、女装して参加します。

　今月の21日、みなさんもパンケーキを作ってみませんか。

              Hello everyone! How did you spend your Valentine’s Day?

              Valentine’s Day is one of the most famous events that happens in February, but have you ever heard of Pancake Day?

              In the past, Pancake Day was the last day before a fasting period when luxurious foods such as eggs and butter were not eaten. On the last day before the fasting period, pancakes were often made in order to use up all of these luxurious ingredients. Because of this, that day came to be known as Pancake Day. This year, Pancake Day will be on the 21st of February.

              These days, most people only celebrate Pancake Day just so they can eat pancakes. On Pancake Day, pancakes are often eaten for breakfast, with various toppings including lemon and sugar.

              In some parts of the UK on Pancake Day there are pancake races. Traditionally, women take part and race whilst flipping pancakes in a frying pan. Usually, the winner is the fastest person to reach the finish line without dropping their pancake. If men want to take part, they often have to wear aprons or women’s clothing!
