「Reality is stranger than fiction」（現実は小説より面白い）

　母国から離れた遠い国では、特に天候などの違いがあります。イギリスの秋は、霧の深い朝、よく降る雨、紅葉と落葉とともに深まります。10月のイギリスの気温は日本よりとても低いです。

　イギリスは雨の多い国で、特に秋は雨の日が多いです。そのため、「イギリス人はいつも傘を持っている」というステレオタイプがあるくらいです。しかし、実際はイギリスでは空を見たら、雨が降るかどうか分かるので、いつも傘を持って歩く必要がないのです。

　私は日本の天気が突然変わることに驚きました。晴れている空から突然大雨になったり、前の週は晴れていたのに突然台風が来たりして、びっくりしました。

　そして、私は日本の空を見ても天気がどうなるか分からないので、傘を持ち歩かないといけないのです！

　「日本にいる間は傘を持ち歩くこと」これがこの前、私が学んだことです。日本にいる間、私はイギリス人のステレオタイプにあてはまってしまいますね…

When you live abroad, far from home, there are lots of differences, especially the weather. Autumn in the UK has truly begun, with misty mornings, lots of rain, and with the leaves changing colour and falling from the trees. The average temperature in October was much lower than in Japan!

It rains a lot in the UK, especially during autumn, so it’s a common stereotype that British people always carry an umbrella. However, in the UK you can normally tell what the weather is going to do if you just look at the sky, so you don’t really need to carry an umbrella all the time.

I’ve been surprised by the weather in Japan, how it can change from a clear sky one moment, to heavy rain the next One week it was clear skies and then suddenly we were hit by a typhoon!

In Japan, you really do need to carry an umbrella all the time because you never know what the weather is going to do!             

So here’s what I’ve learnt recently; when in Japan, ALWAYS carry an umbrella! And so I fit into the British stereotype...
